Last night we observed an outstanding test match b/w India & South Africa. Chasing a world record target of 458 in 4th innings, South Africa ended with 7/450. After a fierce battle of 5 days the two teams settled for a draw. India dominated the first 3 days of the test match, 4th day was even & in the last day "Du Plesis & De Villiers" took this match to unassailable heights by playing an outstanding partnership among themselves. They replied with a century each to nullify the effect of the two centuries of their Indian counterpart Virat Kohli & Cheteshwar Pujara. During the last hour the match could have ended in anybodies favor, so the result can be considered as a "poetic justice".
12th march, 2009 - This Wanderers ground has seen an historic match where South Africa chased down a world record total(434) against Australia & won the match with 1 wicket in hand. Coming back to Du Plesis & De Villiers, they have shown their class before in Adelaide. De Villiers played for 246 mins to score 33 & Duplesis stayed 110 not out spending 466 mins to draw the test match against the mighty Australians.
There was continuous ups & downs, the script was written like a Hollywood thriller. During the first 3 days when India was commanding, nobody could have thought that they'll have to fight to save the test match at the very end. Then again when the magnificent partnership between De Villiers & Du Plesis was rolling high, only 56 more needed to seal the match & create history, even the die hard Indian fans lost hope. But sudden fall of two wickets saw the match coming back to even & finally settling down for a well justified draw.
We speak quite a often that One-day matches & T20's will be replacing the test matches & gaining more popularity due to the excitement. But this recent test match showed why the oldest form of cricket is still considered by the players, coaches & cricket pundits as the greatest.
